Mityana South Member of Parliament Richard Lumu has officially launched his re-election campaign, appealing to residents to renew his mandate so he can complete the development initiatives he began during his current term.
Lumu opened his campaign in Katiti Village, Ssekanyonyi Sub-county, accompanied by Mityana Woman MP Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa and District Vice Chairperson Annie Miriam Nassali Lugendo, who both pledged their support.
Addressing a large gathering, Lumu said his leadership has laid a strong foundation for development in Mityana South, and he is seeking a second term to build on that progress.
“I have started several projects that are already transforming our communities. What I am asking for is continuity so that we can finish what we began together,” he told supporters.
He added that his next term would prioritise improving service delivery, strengthening infrastructure, and championing development programmes that directly benefit residents.
Mityana Woman MP Joyce Bagala urged voters to critically evaluate all candidates before casting their ballots in the upcoming election.
“Voters must examine the leaders seeking their support. Choose people who have demonstrated integrity, consistency, and a genuine commitment to community welfare,” Bagala said.
District Speaker Annie Miriam Nassali Lugendo encouraged residents to back Lumu, noting that his leadership has been instrumental in advancing development across the constituency.
The contest for the Mityana South parliamentary seat has intensified, with seven candidates officially declared in the race as the 2026 general elections draw closer.
The candidates include Makumbi Kamya Henry (NRM), Nalwoga Kevin (NUP), Kintu Fred (Independent), Byarugaba Henry (Independent), Lutaya Amos (DP), Manana Godfrey (FDC), and incumbent Richard Lumu.
With both newcomers and experienced politicians in the race, the battle for the seat is expected to be one of the most competitive in the district.
As campaigns gather pace, all seven candidates are now intensifying their mobilisation efforts as they seek to secure victory in 2026.
